Overview
This programme is a broad based degree allowing the learner to significantly shape their learning experience, and is an alternative route into higher education for those students who perhaps lack traditional qualifications (number, nature or subject mix) suitable for direct entry onto an undergraduate degree, or whose career aspirations have evolved.
Degree structure
The structure of the programme - taking subject matter from fundamental disciplines such biology, chemistry, maths and physics, as well as more applied subjects such as environmental and pharmacy/pharmaceutical sciences, nutrition, sports science - means that the learner will acquire a broad knowledge base and be exposed to a wide range of employment focused skills.
With its emphasis on numeracy, literacy, problem solving and transferable skills, this programme is designed to equip students with the specific knowledge, skills and academic experience required for suitable employment across a range of sectors.
Multidisciplinary modules
Each learner's personalised programme - constructed with significant input from an academic mentor - will be created from the portfolio of courses offered within the Department of Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Environmental Sciences, the Department of Life and Sports Sciences and Medway School of Pharmacy. This degree will therefore equip the learner with the specific knowledge, skills and academic experience to allow them to find suitable employment across a range of sectors. The programme will also be of great interest for non-UK students offering non-standard, alternative pathways into undergraduate degrees that may be more useful in their home countries.
Outcomes
The aims of the programme are:
To provide students with a broad based university education, suitable as a basis for a career in a wide range of scientific disciplines
To provide students whose career aspirations have changed, an opportunity to follow an alternative route to a scientific degree.
