Temario

In this course, students will look critically at theories and methods for teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Although this course emphasizes reading and writing instruction, students will also become familiar with and analyze best practices from a holistic perspective, and understand integrated language instruction across the four domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking
Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their own teaching contexts, and develop methods and materials that can be utilized in their own teaching contexts
Because of the importance placed on reflective practices, students are expected to engage actively in course discussions, submit critical reflections of the readings, and participate in group activities
DIRECTED TOWARDS: English teachers or people with a degree in a similar area of study, with a good level of English proficiency, and interest in teaching
OVERALL AIMS: In this course, students will gain a deeper understanding of language teaching, specifically in relation to reading and writing instructional strategies
The course methods emerge from a learner-centered and constructivist perspective, both for the adult learner participating in this course and for the learner as a language teacher designing instruction in his/her classroom context
Students will design research-based strategies to develop reading and writing skills for students K-12
Finally, course participants will clearly support teaching practices based on research and experiences found throughout required and supplemental readings
