Students are expected to develop an understanding of the implications of research and theory for teaching reading at the various school levels
DIRECTED TOWARDS: English teachers or people with a degree in a similar area of study, with a good level of English proficiency, and interest in teaching
OVERALL AIMS: To provide an overview of reading theories and their application for effective instruction and to understand how theories and models shape teachers’ instructional decisions and practices
CONTENT: What is a theory? What is a model? Early theories about reading: Behaviorism: classical conditioning, operant conditioning applications to reading development and instruction Constructivist reading theories Information/Cognitive theories and models: Literacy development models and theories Practical implications for classroom application and main lines of research
